Presenter Bio :

Malcolm has been involved in Systems Engineering for over 30 years specialising in complex systems integration. He has worked in most of the life-cycle stages from early requirements development through to operations and through-life support.

Malcolm started his career in Aerospace / Defence and after 20 years made the transition into the Rail industry where he has continued to develop his Systems Engineering skills over the last 22 years.

In his current role as the Technical Director for Systems Engineering within WSP UK he is responsible for the development of Systems Engineering capability and its delivery across their project portfolio. Malcolm has held lead senior roles in many large complex rail programmes including Thameslink, Northern Hub, HS2, Crossrail and more recently East West Rail. He has also provided expert advice on systems integration to clients in both Australia and New Zealand.

Malcolm is a firm believer in “Pragmatic SE” and that tailoring the approach to suit the stakeholders’ understanding is the key to success in gaining acceptance of the benefits that SE can deliver.

Malcolm joined INCOSE in 2010 and was the UKAB Point of Contact for WSP from 2013 until his election as President Elect in 2020.


Prior to joining INCOSE, Steve was the Executive Director of GEAPS (the Grain Elevator And Processing Society) and CEO of GEAPS Media Group. He has also previously worked at SCORE, the Gallup Organization, and Nalco Company.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and completed the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders at Stanford University. He is also a Certified Association Executive.

Presenter Bio :

Dr Nike Folayan MBE is a Chartered Electronics Engineer with a doctorate in Electronics engineering. A Technical Director and Technical Discipline Leader for Communications and Control within WSP, an engineering consultancy, Nike leads a team of telecommunications engineers on a variety of projects within the transport industry including railways and the highways projects in the UK, Australia, Middle East and Africa.

Nike chairs AFBE-UK, a not for profit organisation which promotes higher achievement in Engineering and Education amongst people of Black and Ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK. She is a Trustee at the EngineeringUK and StemetteFutures. Previous appointments include a Trustee at Engineering Development Trust (EDT), on the diversity panels of the Science Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering, Transport for London Diversity Steering group, Strategic Planning Committee of University of the West of England. She is currently also on the engineering industrial panel at the University of Kent and a member of the Mayors Infrastructure advisory Panel . Nike has been awarded two honorary doctorates in Science and Technology from University of Kent and UWE Bristol. She is a Fellow at the Institution of Engineering and Technology and an Honorary Fellow at the Royal Academy of Engineering. She was also board member for the Hamilton commission Board.

The M'Pherson Lecture

Presented in memory of Philip M’Pherson who was a practitioner, educator and intellectual leader in Systems Engineering for over 45 years and an early and inspirational member of the UK Chapter of INCOSE. At City University in London, he set up the Department of Systems Science in 1972 - probably the first “Systems Professor” in Europe. His knowledge, passion and tenacity led the department into a position of intellectual leadership on applying Systems Thinking.
